Parrocchia San Nicola di Bari Projects

The Antonimina parish projects have three aims.

The first aim is to help the parish flourish, retain its sense of community in a rapidly changing world and maintain its traditions and its surroundings, especially our wonderful 400 year old church. We are a parish with centuries of tradition and history behind us and as we move forward in the 21st century we must remember to care and nurture the best of the past whilst welcoming the best of the new with open arms. It is in this spirit that I am so happy to embrace the modern technology of the internet to help our parish reach out and touch our family and friends far beyond the village of Antonimina and the region of Reggio Calabria.

The second aim is to help the young people of the village acquire the modern skills, such as English and Computing, that will enable them to find worthwhile work close to home so that they do not find themselves impelled to emigrate in order to feed themselves and their families. Antonimina is a small village of some 1,500 souls which has in the past seen many of its young people, and sometimes whole families, leave for new homes far away in America, Australia and elsewhere in Europe. With the rapid changes that technology has brought us, especially fast long-distance travel, telecommunications, computing and the Internet, there are now opportunities in the region that were undreamt of even 25 years ago. By helping our young people acquire these new skills we will be able to help them to stay within our community so they will not be forced to leave, as was perhaps the case with your family.

The third aim is to help unite the families of Antonimina with members and branches of their families living elsewhere in the world, especially where the family links have become broken. By using our developing genealogical resources pages you too may be able to re-establish your family links to our parish.

Finally let me ask you personally for your support and encouragement of our project. Any donation you can make will be greatfully received and will help us with our work, especially the restoration of our 400 year old church which is the centre of parish life.
